At Bamber Bridge, where Preston play their home games, they found themselves a goal down to Accrington but they came back with goals from Neil Dougan, Dominic Collins and own goal.
There will be no first teamers in reserve games for Preston this season, they have now put together a development squad under the management of Jamie Hoyland and Dean Ramsdale and it is that team which will compete in the Central League. Two former Burnley youth players Dean Stott and Rob Turner made their competitive debuts for North End in this game.
Simon Grayson has been busy in the transfer market during the summer and five of his close season captures were in the side that entertained Manchester City with two of them grabbing the headlines. Alex Baptiste was sent off for preventing a goal scoring opportunity but it was another of the new boys Steve Kabba who gave them the lead. It didn't last and the young Manchester City side came back with goals from Gregory Cunningham, Craig Frater and Abdisalam Ibrahim to win it.
Finally to Carlisle, and they were the first team to get points this season having played their game on Monday. It proved to be an easy win for the Cumbrians with Michael Bridges, having returned from Hull, scoring one of their goals.
