Tranmere and Wrexham hit eight

Not only did both win their respective away games but both scored eight goals with no return. Wrexham winning at Accrington was no big surprise. They started the day in third place and were playing against an Accrington side who were next to bottom.

Morecambe were one place above Accrington and Tranmere were one place below. Tranmere have been bottom of the league all season. Prior to Saturday they hadn't won a game and, in eleven games, had picked up just one point scored only ten goals, so their 8-0 win at Morecambe has all but doubled their goal return and increased their points return four fold.

Wrexham's win has taken them up a place to second. and just two points behind leaders Preston. They've played the same number of games but Preston's goal difference is now only two better than that of the Welsh side.

We couldn't drop in the league on Saturday no matter what, so, after the home defeat against Oldham, we remain in seventh place. A win would have seen us move up to fifth.

Port Vale and Shrewsbury were the only other winners on a day when leaders Preston didn't have a game.

This week we travel to face a rejuvenated Tranmere who will be looking for a second win of the season.
