Walsall started the weekend with a one point lead at the top of the league and extended that to two points despite only being able to secure a point from a 0-0 draw against Wrexham.
That they were able to extend the lead was due to Oldham's 2-1 win against Rochdale. The result has brought Oldham level with their neighbours too, exactly level. Both have 21 points from 10 games, both have scored 25 goals and conceded 14 goals.
That result also allowed Blackpool the opportunity to move into second place. Just a one goal win was enough but they beat Carlisle 3-0 and are there with a goal difference three better than Oldham and Rochdale.
Preston, without a game, slipped to fifth with all the teams around them having played a game less and there was good news for the Clarets whose 6-1 home win against Wigan moved us up two places in the table, ahead of both Wigan and Fleetwood.
Fleetwood were beaten 3-0 at home to Bury, who are one place and one point above us, but Wigan were held to a 3-3 draw at Accrington.
In the other two games played there were away wins for Port Vale and Tranmere against Macclesfield and Shrewsbury.
There are just five games this weekend, including our away game against Carlisle, but there is a chance for a change at the top. That will happen should Walsall lose at home to Rochdale. That would take Rochdale above them.
If that game ended in a draw or a Rochdale win it would give Blackpool the opportunity to go top should they win at Preston.
