Top three win as weather hits Alliance fixtures

Wrexham, beaten only once all season, that at Oldham in November, had just overtaken Preston at the top on the previous Saturday and ensured they'd stay there with a 2-1 win against Fleetwood.

They needed that result too; Preston and third place Walsall were both 4-0 winners against Oldham and Carlisle and those three results have all but assured that one of them will end the season as Champions.

Wrexham lead Preston by three points who themselves are three points ahead of Walsall who have a game in hand. There is just one clash between them and that's this coming Saturday when Preston travel to Wrexham.

Should Wrexham win that then it would look all but over with them requiring only one point from two games to lift the title, but a Preston win would make it an intriguing finish for all three sides, particularly if Walsall win against Morecambe.

We should have played Shrewsbury at Gawthorpe. It was a late victim to the weather with confirmation of the postponement coming less than an hour before kick off. Rochdale, one place above us, and Bury, one place below, also saw their games called off so our standing in the league remains exactly as it was.

There were just two other results last week.

Blackpool won 4-3 at Shrewsbury a week ago today and on Saturday Port Vale were winners at Accrington.

Yesterday's game between Carlisle and Rochdale was another to be postponed.

There is no new date for our game as yet, one of two remaining home games. We've also three away games to play with the first of them this Saturday at Port Vale.
