Third successive defeat for youth team

We certainly didn't play well this morning but we can only have ourselves to blame for the defeat after missing a string of chances and giving the home goalkeeper the opportunity to be the game's best player, particularly in the first half.

At times we dominated but chance after chance went begging . In fairness the Accrington goalkeeper did make some good saves but we did make it too easy for him on some occasions and at other times we failed to hit the target.

It seemed as though a goal just had to come sooner or later but with half time approaching we might have fallen behind when Callum Richardson was adjudged to have handled the ball, the referee not hesitating in pointing to the spot.

Conor Mitchell, in goal, was sent the wrong way but it mattered not as the spot kick went some distance wide of the post and ensured the score remained at 0-0 as we went into the break.

The second half followed a similar pattern although the game had evened out more, and with just over an hour gone Terry Pashley made a double change in an attempt to change our fortunes.

Unfortunately, two minutes later, disaster struck as Richardson misjudged a back pass and allowed our hosts a simple task to take the lead.

It flattened us and despite there being 26 minutes remaining we rarely threatened to get back into it. We did have a couple more chances, the goalkeeper did have one more good save to make and I'm convinced Waqas Azam should have had a penalty when tripped and would have got one had he gone down.

But overall it was a disappointing performance and if you don't take your chances this is what happens.

Burnley's team was: Conor Mitchell, Waqas Azam, Callum Richardson, Alex Whitmore, Charlie Holt, Brad Jackson, Kevin Ly, Luke Daly, Christian Hill, Evan Galvin (Nathan Lowe 62), Ntumba Massanka (Khius Metz 62).
