Manchester City's Pontin's League team are recovering after a disappointing start to the season and they simply brushed Chester aside on Tuesday evening at the Regional Athletics Centre at Eastlands in Manchester.

Kenny Jackett's team won 5-1 to record their third win of the season with two goals each from Ashley Grimes and Vladimir Weiss. Grimes is described by City as a youngster, it is no comeback for the player who used to play his football on the other side of the city.

It meant a drop down the table for Chester, but Morecambe have not taken their second place with a 4-2 win against Rochdale at Christie Park. The Shrimpers, under coach Jeff Udall, are the only unbeaten side in the league and this was their fourth victory in seven games in a game where Rochdale scored first and last.

Leaders Preston lost for the third time, and were fortunate to lose by only one goal against Paul Simpson's former club Carlisle. Kevin Gall got a late winner for the Cumbrians who had let North End back into the game with an own goal.

Two goals for Danny Mitchley and one for Canadian Michael D'Agostino were enough to give Blackpool the points against Accrington and at the Racecourse on Monday there was finally a victory for Wrexham.

The only goal of the game came from former Hartlepool striker Eifion Williams to give the Welsh side their first win of the season. This win against Tranmere was enough to take them off the bottom of the league, replaced by Rochdale.
