Still chasing Oldham

We weren’t at our best, and that could have come as no surprise so soon after the performance against Fulham but Ali Akbar and Nicky Platt scored the goals to ensure the win and that five point lead over Preston who, like Oldham, won their game 4-1 against Walsall.

Our team on Saturday was: Matthew Mann, Rob Henry, Tom Blackler, Raphael Evans (Paul Casey), Martin Reilly, Dale Underwood, Connor Smith (Adam Kay), Nicky Platt, Ali Akbar, Rob Turner (Lewis Craig), Jay Rodriguez.

The games are coming thick and fast for the youth team and on Wednesday of next week we will play Chester City in the Youth Alliance Cup. This game was postponed back in November and will kick off at noon at the home of Airbus UK.

This means the reserve game against Chester, scheduled for that evening, has been called off and this week’s reserve game is also off. We were scheduled to play Rochdale at home (at Accrington) but presumably it has been called off because of Accrington’s home game against Carshalton Athletic the night before.

The next reserve game for the Clarets is now 1^st February at Carlisle but that too could be set for a new date if, as expected, the FA Youth Cup tie against Liverpool or Ipswich is played that week. If so, then they will next be in action on the 8^th at home to Bury.
