Shrimpers back on top

It looked as though Morecambe might miss the chance. They've been scoring goals for fun recently but Bury held them until twelve minutes from the end before a Bury defender diverted a Paul Lloyd free kick into his own goal.

That win saw them back on top because of Preston's defeat at the hands of Chester. It was North End's last home game of the season and it was a less experienced side compared to the one they usually turn out.

Lloyd Ellams gave Chester a first half lead but it was half time substitute Matty Mainwaring who brought Preston back into the game. However, Ellams struck again to give Chester all three points.

Bottom club Rochdale had the biggest win of the week, scoring three times against next to the bottom Accrington. The Rochdale chairman has been hitting out at the people of Rochdale this week for not supporting the team. I wonder how many turned up at Dark Lane, home of Rossendale United, for this encounter.

Carlisle were 1-0 winners at Tranmere courtesy of a late Danny Carlton goal and on Tuesday Manchester City fought out a 1-1 draw with Blackpool. Andy Welsh gave the Seasiders the lead before Ian Daly equalised for City.

Our next opponents are leaders Morecambe next Wednesday, again at Accrington.
