Shrewsbury next in cup

Two goals from Wes Fletcher, one from Chris Anderson and an own goal were enough to see the young Clarets through easily whilst our opponents in the next round had a 2-0 home win over Port Vale to go through.

The big surprise appeared to be Wigan's heavy 3-0 home defeat to Darlington but the North East club, like the Clarets, haven't dropped a point this season having won five league games out of five and sit one point behind leaders Chesterfield in the North East Alliance with two games in hand.

It was Wigan's first defeat of the season and Wrexham, currently second in our league, also lost for the first time when they went out 2-1 at Carlisle. Other North West Conference teams to win were Macclesfield, Morecambe, Oldham, Rochdale and Tranmere.

Also through to the next round are Chesterfield, Grimsby, Hartlepool, Mansfield and Scunthorpe. It was Scunthorpe, alongside us, who had the biggest win of the day. Their 4-0 win came against former league club Boston.

The first round results and the second round draw are shown below as are this Saturday's fixtures when the Clarets take on bottom club Accrington Stanley at Gawthorpe. Hopefully this one won't be the banana skin as our 100% team take on the team still looking for their first point.
