Shrews get first Alliance win

Wrexham were the only one of the three to have any points at all, having drawn at Accrington on the last day of August. They've still got that one point advantage over Morecambe who lost again to Port Vale but they saw Shrewsbury move above them with a 3-2 home win against Wigan.

At the top end of the table it is still all about Rochdale even though they were without a game. Closest rivals Walsall ahead of Saturday's games were Walsall but they suffered a home defeat to Blackpool and that let Oldham, winners against Fleetwood, into second place.

That was the end of Walsall's unbeaten start to the season and it looks as though Oldham might again be  a team to watch this season. They were beaten heavily by the young Clarets last month but have won all their other games.

We are now one of four teams on eight points with our plus three goal difference positioning us at the top of that group. It means we're fifth and besides the top three were also behind Port Vale the victors over Morecambe.

In the other games, Macclesfield beat Carlisle on Friday with Tranmere beating Accrington in the other game played on Saturday.

Rochdale face Preston at home tomorrow so have an early opportunity to extend their lead at the top, and with second and third facing each other on Saturday another win could see them go even further ahead.

Burnley are back at home this weekend against Fleetwood. A Saturday morning kick off remains at the moment but with Burnley keen to move the game so as not to clash with the first team game against Blackburn.
