Shrews are new Alliance leaders

Last updated : 23 September 2015 By Tony Scholes

Shrewsbury knew that a win would draw them level at the top and that a two goal win would take them above Tranmere on goals scored, but they went one better than that, winning 3-0 to head the table on goal difference.

For Tranmere, it brought to an end their winning start to the season. They'd won all of their first five games but now sit second although they do have a game in hand on Shrewsbury.

The team they need to keep an eye on is Walsall. Their win at Carlisle has lifted them into third place. They trail the top two by just two points and have one and two games in hand on them. Walsall are up there most seasons and it is no surprise to see them climbing the table.

Burnley, Carlisle, Preston and Rochdale have for years been the teams to watch in this league, but that's certainly not the case right now. Three of them are in the bottom four with all of them in the bottom half of the table.

We are off the bottom now on goal difference only with Morecambe behind us. The game at Blackpool last Saturday was lost 3-1 with home striker Kit Gregory bagging a hat trick. Blackpool were by far the better side and their coach Ciaran Donnelly said: "It was our best performance of the season. We were excellent from start to finish."

Our next game is this Saturday against Carlisle. Please note this game is now being played at Carlisle with the home fixture against them now scheduled for January.
