Alan Mahon - hat trick in eight minutes
A strong looking Burnley side once again included manager Owen Coyle in the starting lne up but it was Morecambe, who could have gone top with a win, who went ahead on eighteen minutes when Carl Baker struck from the penalty spot following a hand ball.

Burnley fought to get back into the game and David Unsworth hit the post midway thought the half. Alex MacDonald came close but Morecambe could also have doubled their lead. However, by half time it was still 1-0 to the home side, and we'd lost Garreth O'Connor to injury.

Morecambe could have scored early in the second half but Michael Twiss hit a shot against the post and then Hunter lobbed Gabor Kiraly only to see his effort go wide.

From then on the game changed. Manager Owen Coyle equalised on 53 minutes, becoming the first Burnley manager to score for the club since Chris Waddle. Two minutes later he'd doubled his tally to give the Clarets the lead.

It was all Burnley now and Alex MacDonald, the only apprentice in the starting line up tonight, made it three goals in four reserve games as took the score to 3-1.

Alan Mahon then took over. He made it 4-1 on 74 minutes, got his second four minutes later and after another four minutes completed an eight minute hat trick to take the score to 6-1.

Michael Duff scored the seventh in the last minute to earn Burnley their biggest win at reserve team level for some time.
