Seven goal Clarets go seven points clear

Stockport beat second place Wrexham 3-2. Three times Stockport were in front against a Wrexham side with the best defence in the league. Rick Ratcliffe and Kyle Wilkie got the first two and it was Ratcliffe who scored the clinching goal.

Carlisle are closing in on that second place now. Having lost to the Clarets in the opening game of the season they have dropped only two more point and are now just a point behind the Welsh club with a game in hand.

It's all changed in those top few places recently. It was Oldham and Wigan right up there behind us recently but they were both beaten again over the weekend. Wigan surprisingly went down at home to Macclesfield whilst Oldham suffered defeat against a Preston side that has been languishing in the lower reaches of the league.

There were also wins for Bury, Shrewsbury and Walsall on a day when the young Clarets hit seven for the second time this season. What a season we are having so far. We are playing so well as a team and within that we are getting some outstanding individual performances with each game.

What a credit they are to our club and along with the players we must not forget the contributions from Terry Pashley, Andy Farrell and Vince Overson. Vince often tells me that results don't necessarily matter at this level, that it is all about player development. He's right of course, but doesn't the league table look good with all these wins?

We are back at Gawthorpe this coming Saturday when we play Preston. That will mean another ex-Claret on the touchline with the visitors coached by Jamie Hoyland.
