Second half goal blitz wins it for Clarets

Wes Fletcher - two more goals
Such a result had never looked likely during a first half that was lacking in excitement to such an extent that some members of the crowd were playing spot the celebrity. Grimsby boss Mike Newell was an easy target but it took one eagle eyed fan to zoom in on former Claret Gerry Peyton and ex-Football League referee Tony Leake.

There was hardly anything of note and certainly not much in the way of chances and it was no surprise to see the teams go in at half time with a goalless scoreline.

But Burnley stepped it up in the second half and when Alex MacDonald cleverly played in Wes Fletcher, the young striker took his chance in some style. If that was good, then his finish for the second was even better as the Clarets took full command.

MacDonald, back from a bout of tonsillitis, gave way after the hour and was replaced by Michael King. Anything Wes can do, so can Kingy, and he too took two chances well with Burnley dominating the second half.

The midfield certainly got to grips with things and some of the passing was excellent as the two goalscorers will testify. And for Fletcher, that meant five goals in the last three reserve games to go with is 23 goals for the youth team.

Next week's home game against Blackpool has been called off because of our Lancashire FA Youth Cup tie at Oldham so the reserves will not be in action for two weeks when we play Rochdale away. That game will be played at Rossendale United's Dark Lane.
