Second despite defeat

It's our third defeat of the season but the two clubs who could have climbed above us were also losers although in Preston's case it was probably no surprise. They went down 4-3 to leaders Bury in the highest scoring game of the day and that means Bury are now four points clear of us at the top of the league.

Wrexham, previously unbeaten, went down to Wigan and that result has taken the Premier League club's youth team into third place, above Wrexham on goal difference and just a point behind the Clarets.

Carlisle had the biggest win of the day, beating Morecambe 4-0 at home. At least this time the Carlisle team didn't have to travel over 100 miles in a damaged mini-bus to get to their game. That defeat for Morecambe means they drop back into bottom place after Accrington pulled off a draw at strugglers Rochdale.

Walsall were the other winners, beating Tranmere 2-1. Tranmere appear to be struggling at youth level now but it is not long since they were one of the feared teams in this league.

Burnley will be hoping to get back to winning ways this weekend. As the first team travel to Bramall Lane to play Sheffield United the youth team will be coming up against bottom club Morecambe at Gawthorpe.
