Walsall had drawn against Macclesfield in midweek and knew a win would take them top if Blackpool failed to beat Tranmere, meaning the Seasiders are off the top for the first time in weeks.
Elsewhere Shrewsbury gave themselves a fighting chance of getting off the bottom with a home win over Rochdale. It leaves them just one point adrift of both 'Dale and Accrington who took a hammering at Stockport whilst they are now only two points from Morecambe. Those other three clubs all have at least three games in hand on them.
Bury and Chester were the other winners in the league and Bury's win against Wigan took them above the Premier League club.
Burnley are in action on Friday this week rather than Saturday. The scheduled league game against Bury has been called off to allow us to play our Youth Alliance Cup Northern Semi-Final against Hartlepool. This will be played at Gawthorpe, kick off 2:00 p.m.
