Run you lazy .......

Steven Hewitt - first goal for the reserves
The four goals came in a horror period of thirteen minutes either side of half time when we quite simply could have conceded more, and, despite an improved second half showing, we were never going to come back from that one.

There were two former Burnley favourites with a watching view as the game kicked off on a poor surface that came close to being passed unfit. David Eyres was in the stand on one side with Gareth Taylor in the home team dug out alongside his manager Dean Saunders.

It was, quite simply, impossible to play in the way we like to do. Passing the ball was a real trial for any player and the ball just wouldn't bounce on the pitch that looked as bad as Gawthorpe on a bad day.

As we failed to adapt, Wrexham's more direct style was much more appropriate and they probably had the better of the game in the first half hour although there is no doubt we should have had a penalty when Dominic Knowles was fouled.

On 34 minutes though it was the home side who went in front, and probably deservedly when Nat Knight-Percival turned in a cross. Four minutes later it was 2-0 as Marc Williams was the first to react when Craig Mawson saved a Jamie Tolley free kick and on 44 minutes came the third when this time a Tolley free kick went into the bottom corner.

Burnley switched to 4-4-2 at half time with Ross Wilson replacing Joe Jackson but within two minutes of the restart our shell shocked defence allowed Mathias Pogba to steal in unmarked to make it 4-0.

To our credit we kept going although there is no doubt we could have conceded more goals, but we pulled one back from a sweet strike from leading scorer Alex MacDonald.

As Burnley got more of the ball it was too much for Tolley who chose to have a less than quiet word with one of team mates. "******* run you lazy *******," he screamed loud enough for the entire British Aerospace staff to hear.

It had no effect and Steven Hewitt grabbed his first goal at this level and Burnley's second in the second and last minute of stoppage time to reduce the deficit to two goals.

There were sporadic shouts of 'Hoskin Out' - let's face it one defeat by mid-January is hardly successful. It was one of those days on a difficult pitch, but we have to learn to play on those sort of surfaces, something we didn't do very well this afternoon.

The teams were;
