Rochdale take the points at Gawthorpe

We almost conceded in the very first minute after a superb team move by the visitors and that set the pattern for the game although we did twice come close to taking an early lead ourselves.

In our very first attack the ball dropped loose in the box with Michael King just unable to turn it in, and on the quarter of an hour 'Dale were thankful to their goalkeeper who kept out a Joe Jackson effort.

But midway through the half a long range Rochdale effort found the corner of the net to Josh Cook's right and early in the second half they doubled that lead with a goal from the right hand side of goal.

We made changes but rarely looked like getting back into the game, but we pulled one back five minutes from time when the Rochdale full back turned a Dom Knowles cross into his own goal.

A late surge failed to find an unexpected equaliser and the whistle blew on only our second league defeat since October. Rochdale are riding high in the Youth Alliance League this season and this performance showed exactly why, they looked a very good side albeit against an under par Clarets in front of the entire first team coaching team.

We'll be looking to get back to form and winning ways this Saturday when we entertain Tranmere.

Our team was: Josh Cook, Dean Overson (Ed Williams 66), Tom Anderson, Stephen Edwards, Marcus Giglio, Tommy Taylor (Curtis Woods 64), Joe McKee (Dave Lynch 48), Dom Knowles, Michael King, Joe Jackson, Ross Wilson. Sub not used: Jake McEneaney.
