Rochdale and Walsall lead the Alliance

It was a tough game for the Clarets, and a fairly even one, with Walsall winning courtesy of their better finishing on the day.

There was nothing close about Rochdale's third win of the season though. They play their home games at Salford City but had to forgo that on Saturday and gave home advantage to Wigan, but it mattered not as 'Dale ended the game as easy 5-0 winners with both Dimi Tuanzebe and Callum Camps scoring twice.

That result was bettered by Oldham who recovered from their defeat to Burnley a week earlier by hitting Morecambe for six. In a performance that pleased academy manager Tony Philliskirk, there were four goals for Jordan Bove for the Latics.

Morecambe are bottom of the league without a point, but not on their own. Both Shrewsbury and last season's champions Wrexham are still to get off the mark.

They lost to Accrington and Bury who, along with Preston, winners against Port Vale, won their first points of the season.

In the two remaining games, Fleetwood won at Macclesfield while Tranmere and Blackpool fought out a 0-0 draw.

Ahead of the weekend there are two midweek games. Leaders Rochdale host Blackpool this afternoon and tomorrow Burnley have a first home game of the season at Gawthorpe against Tranmere with the game kicking off at 2 p.m.
