Reserves suffer defeat

Rob Turner - came closest to scoring for the Clarets
It was always going to be a tough ask for the Clarets with probably as young a side out as we have ever had at this level and we did particularly well in the first half as we comfortably held the more experienced home side.

We came close to going in front as Rob Turner broke clear but a defender got back to block his shot in what was the final action of the first half.

The home side got on top in the second half but we were defending well enough until just after the hour when a cross from the left caused us some problems and the ball dropped for Shrewsbury's Steve Hogg to hammer the ball home.

The Clarets came back and were unfortunate not to draw level when Turner again got in a good effort but it went just wide of the target and within minutes the home side doubled the lead when Chelsea youngster Jack Watkins, on trial with Shrewsbury, converted from close range after a good move. There was no way back after that and the score remained at 2-0.

The teams were,

Shrewsbury: Lance Cronin (Glyn Thompson 60), James Younghusband, Steve Leslie, Jay Denny, Gavin Cadwallader, Gavin Cowan, Jack Watkins, Joel Byrom, Marco Adaggio, Steve Hogg, Richard Evans. Subs not used: George Hughes, Henry Goh.

Burnley: Chris Sanna, Dean Stott, Paul Casey, Connor Smith, Tom Bradley, Rob Henry, Ali Akbar (Chris Anderson 25), Adam Kay, Rob Turner, Jay Rodriguez (Alex McDonald 75), Lewis Craig (Ash Young 75). Sub not used: Lee Matthews.
