John McGreal - good performance in defence
It looked for much of the first half that the Clarets would win this one, and win it easily. We were on top from the word go and having gone in front midway through the half should have extended the lead long before Preston's equaliser just before half time.

We looked solid at the back with John McGreal making defending look easy, we were in control in midfield and up front both Kyle Lafferty and Rob Turner were making life very difficult for the Preston defenders.

It was Turner who put is in front with an excellent headed goal from Garreth O'Connor and you sensed another goal at the point would have seen Preston off. An equaliser never looked on the cards and when it came was out of the blue. But we got caught out on the edge of our own box and that let in Howard who gave trialist goalkeeper Chris Sanna no chance.

Level at half time, it was so cold that most of the crowd rushed into the bar to take in some of the Champions League game between Juventus and Arsenal, and many of them didn't return for a second half where the Clarets, as the temperatures dropped, turned in a poor performance.

We made an early substitution with Jay Rodriguez coming on for Kyle Lafferty who had picked up an ankle injury just before half time and we never found any rhythm at all and I can't recall us really threatening the Preston goal once in the entire forty-five minutes.

At the other end it at least gave Sanna the chance to impress and he came through with flying colours, even catching one high ball cleanly having appeared to lose it in the lights. He made one superb save to tip over an effort, twisting in mid-air when he initially looked beaten.

It was nothing like the first half and we started to give the ball away too easily which allowed the home side to get at us more. There was a short spell in the middle of the half when Preston created three half decent chances but having failed to convert any of them the game petered out and from then on a draw was on the cards.

That's how it ended, to bring to an end a run of three successive defeats and we'll next be in action on Tuesday of next week when we play Chester at Accrington.
