Reserves change as the youth team go third

For some reason this home game has been scheduled for an afternoon kick off at 2 o’clock ever since the fixtures were published but at the last minute it has now been changed to an evening kick off at Accrington Stanley’s Interlink Express Stadium.

The reserves are currently eight in the table and could climb one place should we beat bottom place Rochdale tomorrow, the team is, as is usually the case, expected to be a young team and this week they will also be without keeper Danny Coyne who is set to play for the Welsh in Vienna.

The youth team’s win on Saturday did confirm third place in the top division of the Merit League and a league in which the four north west clubs currently take the top four places. Second place Oldham beat top of the league Tranmere to go level with them but the Clarets are just three points behind with a game in hand on the Latics and two in hand on Tranmere.

The results in the Merit League over the weekend were,

Darlington 0 Wigan 1

Oldham 2 Tranmere 0

Port Vale 0 Burnley 3

Scunthorpe 5 Mansfield 1

We will travel to play leaders Tranmere on Saturday and a good result could see us in a very strong position to go on and win this league.
