Shay McCartan got Burnley's second

We lost the game 4-2 with our goals coming via an own goal and Northern Ireland youth international Shay McCartan, but it was a strong Huddersfield team that included two ex-Clarets, Alan Lee and Joey Gudjonsson, who both scored two goals each.

It was 2-1 at half time and the Clarets went 4-1 down before McCartan pulled one back as he ran on to a through ball from Aryn WIlliams.

Coach Jason Blake said: "They had a strong side and we acquitted ourselves well. The scoreline is no disgrace and our young players have played against some full internationals and big hitters so it's been a good experience for them.

"We perhaps didn't work their goalkeeper as much as we would have liked but the encouraging thing is we have played against strong opposition and got the ball down and used possession well.

"After playing some non-league teams in pre-season this was an excellent test before we play our first reserve league game against Preston in a couple of weeks."

Huddersfield also included such as Danny Cadamarteri and Damien Johnson, the former Blackburn midfielder who is on his way back to fitness after a cruciate injury.

Their coach, Steve Watson, was full of praise for Burnley. "We played against a young and talented Burnley side today. I spoke with their manager before the game and they have played and beaten a lot of teams from our division, but they saw us as a big step up and that is a massive compliment to our Club and the squad we have," he said.

"We dealt with their pace and energy really well and created a lot of good chances, scoring four really pleasing goals."

Burnley are next in action two weeks tonight when the 12 game Central League gets underway with a home game against Preston.

Burnley, with two more trialists, lined up: Josh Cook, Anthony Glover (Carlon 50), Neil Yadolahi, Alex Coleman (Tom Anderson 60), Dave Lynch (Aryn Williams 70), Alex-Ray Harvey, Joe McKee, Dominic Knowles, Ross Wilson (Archie Love 70), Landell (Shay McCartan 60), Mehdi Lazaar (Steven Hewitt 70).
