Reserves beaten by Blackpool

Duane Courtney - gave us the lead
The game was only given the go ahead just after 5 o'clock but there was nothing to suggest it should ever have been in doubt at what I hope is only our temporary home for the second string.

When we played the reverse fixture at Bloomfield Road it proved to be something of a farce with goalkeeper Mark Crossley sent off and the then Blackpool reserve coach and now manager Simon Grayson taking off one of his own players to try to even things up.

We lost that one 7-1 with Marc Pugh in goal, having taken an early lead and we lost again last night after going in front, and whilst using another temporary goalkeeper in Accrington Stanley's Danny Alwood.

The goal came when the ball dropped to Duane Courtney just outside the box and he drilled a shot into the bottom corner giving the Seasiders' keeper Les Pogliacomi no chance. It could, and should have been two but for a somewhat strange decision by the referee. Kyle Lafferty won the ball for Cayne Hanley to run in on goal and he made no mistake only for a free kick to be awarded to Blackpool. No one seemed to quite understand the decision.

Just before half time, and then again shortly after the break, we conceded poor goals and from then it was always an uphill struggle, and one we weren't able to overcome. We had lots of possession but failed to make enough from it and eventually the scoring was completed with a stoppage time third for Blackpool that was clearly offside.

So, another defeat, and to make things worse I had a seat close to Blackpool's assistant manager Tony Parkes. We might not have recognised the Blackpool boss Grayson sat next to him but Parkes' nose was unmistakeable.

We're back on the road next week with trips to Shrewsbury on Monday and then to Bamber Bridge where we take on Preston two days later.
