So tight is it that the top that Wigan were able to move up four places with a big 5-0 win against Fleetwood. It's taken them into second place above Walsall on goal different after the Saddlers could only draw their home game against Preston.
That draw enabled Rochdale, who have a game in hand, to move two points clear at the top with the biggest win of the day. Top against bottom was always going to be a mismatch and so it proved with 'Dale beating Morecambe 6-0 to also give their goal difference a boost.
Bury were the other side ahead of us who were in action and they didn't pull away, surprisingly going down to defeat against struggling Carlisle, a result that has pulled to Cumbrians away from the bottom two and now behind Shrewsbury on goal difference after they'd been beaten at Tranmere.
Things aren't going too well for Oldham. They'd won seven of their first eight games but it seems to have gone off the rails. They've since been beaten 4-1 at home by both Preston and Port Vale and have now followed that up with a third consecutive defeat, a 2-1 home loss against Wrexham.
In the one remaining game, Blackpool beat next to bottom Accrington which leaves them in ninth place.
Those two big wins for Rochdale and Wigan have taken them both above us as the league's leading scorers. Rochdale now have 32 and Wigan 31 with us the third highest scorers on 28. The pair are the best defensively too; Rochdale having conceded 12 and Wigan, along with Walsall and Preston, having conceded just one goal more.
We'll be hoping to get back in action this week when we face Fleetwood away. Last week's results are below along with this week's fixtures, our goalscorers and the current table.
