But they held off each of them in turn and in the end have won the league with some points to spare. Their win last Saturday has left them nine points clear of second place Rochdale who are now favourites to take second place.

Burnley sit in sixth place and last Saturday had to watch as all of the sides above us won. They are all well out of reach now and with one game to go we need to ensure we get a result to prevent Wigan, our last opponents from going above us.

It's a somewhat strange league this season where some teams will have played more games than others. That's dependent on whether they were scheduled to play Chester City once or twice, with that club's record expunged recently after the club went into liquidation.

We had already played them, and had the result removed from the records, but with another game still to come against us it will mean we are one of the teams to have played a game fewer when the season is all at an end.

Bury and Macclesfield were the other winners last weekend with Wrexham winning on Monday against Blackpool.
