Preston back on top

Preston beat Wigan but Shrewsbury, who held a one point lead going into the games, could only draw with Bury and that allowed Jamie Hoyland's North End to return the top position they have held for most of the season.

Stockport County might well be a club in crisis right now, with no guarantees that they'll be in existence come next season, but they are doing well enough at youth level. Another win, against Carlisle, keeps them in third place but if they were to win their two games in hand on Preston would go top. Stockport have been beaten just twice all season.

Regarding crisis clubs, Chester City, despite having been expelled from the Blue Square Premiership, managed to play a youth game on Saturday. Not only that but they won, albeit against bottom club Accrington.

Having lost to Port Vale, we saw Oldham go above us courtesy of their win over fourth place Walsall who are now well out of the running for the top place. Macclesfield were the other winners on Saturday, beating struggling Blackpool.

The results are all shown below as are this week's fixtures and Burnley's goalscorers. Burnley travel to Wrexham on Saturday but the big game of the week is that between Stockport and Preston.
