Preston and Shrewsbury win as weather hits the Alliance

At Burnley there didn't seem to be any problem on Friday and the club were confident that the home game against Rochdale would go ahead at Gawthorpe on Saturday morning. But overnight there was a harder frost than expected and it left the pitches at the training ground rock hard and the decision to call the game off was an easy one.

It was the same story just about everywhere in the North West Conference of the Youth Alliance League with just one game surviving. That was in North Wales where Wrexham played host to Shrewsbury.

It was visitors Shrewsbury who came out on top and that keeps them in third place in the table but now with a three point advantage over fourth place Stockport and just a couple of points behind Walsall in second place.

The only other game played was during last week, on the Tuesday, when leaders Preston pushed themselves three points ahead of Walsall with a 1-0 win at Bury.

Burnley will be hoping that the weather relents this week and we can get back to playing at Gawthorpe. Our last home game in the Youth Alliance League was on the first Saturday in December when we beat Bury 1-0.

Our opponents this Saturday, ahead of the first team home game against West Ham, are Chester City.
