Preston and Shrewsbury favourites for title

Stockport, currently fourth, are the only side now with any real chance of catching them and the likelihood is the title will go to one of that top two with Preston very much the favourites.

They retained their three point lead at the top with a crushing 6-0 win over Macclesfield whilst Shrewsbury were also winners with a much closer win against bottom club Accrington.

Walsall, third in the table, could only draw but Stockport hit five at lowly Blackpool to maintain their push with games in hand.

None could match Tranmere this week however for goals. They scored no less than eight goals in two games. On Saturday they held Burnley to a 4-4 draw at Gawthorpe and they came close to the same score last night but ended the game by beating Morecambe 4-3.

Our draw keeps us in sixth place, three points behind Rochdale who have a game in hand, and three points ahead of Oldham.

Port Vale were the other winners on Saturday, beating Wigan, whilst the game between Morecambe and Wrexham was postponed.

Burnley travel to Macclesfield this Saturday, one of four remaining games for us.
