Morecambe collected only their first point of the season a week earlier, drawing 0-0 against Wigan, and they doubled that tally with a second successive home draw, this time a 2-2 result against Bury.
It would have been enough to lift them off the bottom had Wrexham, as expected, lost at Shrewsbury, but they won 3-2 to edge themselves two points above the bottom club.
Wigan were third from the bottom. They'd only won once, but they doubled that with a 1-0 victory against us at Gawthorpe and that's moved them up three places in the table, passing all of Fleetwood, Shrewsbury and Accrington.
There was no change at the top. Neither of the top two, Rochdale and Walsall, played but that gave Preston a real opportunity to move in between them. A win would have seen them go two points above Walsall and level on points with leaders Rochdale although it would have taken a ten goal North End win for them to go top.
It was all academic. They drew against Carlisle and are now level with Walsall although they've played two more games than the other clubs up at the top of the league.
Oldham and Blackpool continue to threaten. Both won again and both won 4-2; Oldham beating Macclesfield and Blackpool getting a win at Accrington.
Blackpool's win took them above us and, in the one remaining game, Port Vale's win at Tranmere dropped us a further place in the table to eighth.
This week we get a break from the league with the first round of the Youth Alliance Cup with Burnley travelling to Blackpool where just nine days ago we were beaten 1-0.
