Point for Clarets at Radcliffe

Rob Turner - hit the post
It might be mid-April but it was another bitterly cold night to follow the one at Accrington last night as the Clarets fielded a very young side with the starting eleven made up of seven second year and four first year apprentices. Five of them had started against Morecambe last night with three others having come on as subs.

Probably Bury had the better of the first half but they had the advantage of the slope and also a referee that many in the crowd, mostly made up of Burnley fans, thought went by the name of Mr Homer. We defended well and restricted them to very few chances although Jonathan Sergeant had to be alert on a couple of occasions. At the other end we created a couple of openings for ourselves but couldn't find the breakthrough and we went in at the interval level.

We stepped it up somewhat in the second half and were the better side. We were able to get forward more but too often the final ball let us down and Alex MacDonald and Rob Turner up front were at times starved of service. However they both came close to winning the game for us. Turner saw a header come back off the post and only the save of the game from Burye keeper Mike Smith kept out MacDonald.

For long spells in the second half much of the play was towards the Bury goal and apart from one occasion they didn't really threaten us. Overall a draw was probably a fair result.

The teams were;

Bury: Mike Smith, Alex Mallion, Carlos Edmonson-Rouse, David Thompson, Andy Parkinson, Ryan Hall, Josh Rothwell, Kevin Fields, Chris Mason, Luke Holmes, Jermaine Steele. Subs: Nathan Tosum, Danny Fradd, Krish Patel, James Tannahill.

Burnley: Jonathan Sergeant, Dean Stott, Nik Kudiersky, Chris Lynch, Thomas Bradley, Lewis Craig, Chris Anderson, Adam Kay, James Craggs, Alex MacDonald, Rob Turner. Subs not used: Stef Ritchie, Matt Lomas, Dil Chaggar, Oliver Devenney, Liam Newman.
