Out of action reserves drop a place

Despite winning our last game we dropped to second behind Tranmere that night on goals scored. They've picked up an extra point since but it is goals scored again that sees us drop to third behind a North End side who have played three more games than we have.

Last weeks games saw Carlisle as the only winners, hitting Blackpool for five on the Monday. Jeff Smith scored two of the Carlisle goals, but they had a very inexperienced team out against a Blackpool side that included Stephen McPhee and Zesh Rehman.

In the other games played last week, Tranmere came back to equalise in the second half courtesy of an own goal to earn a home point against Bury and that was enough to move them one point clear at the top. Preston crept closer to the top two with a 1-1 draw at Morecambe with captain Nathan Fairhurst scoring the equaliser.

Preston have a development squad for reserve games, although Liam Chilvers played an hour of the draw at Morecambe as he comes back from injury. That development squad looked a bit different this week when they hit Rochdale for five as was the venue.

They've previously been playing at Bamber Bridge but have now moved their home base to Chorley's Victory Park. In the first game there Chilvers played again but it was surprising to see they now consider the likes of Brett Ormerod and Simon Whaley to be members of their development squad.

It was former Burnley apprentice Rob Turner who gave Preston the lead when he redirected a 25-yard shot but the other goals were scored by Ormerod(2), Chilvers and Whaley.

That has taken them second in a very unbalanced league table where Preston have played more than twice as many games as Manchester City. City incredibly have a 100% record but because of a lack of games played are fourth in the table. Tranmere and Burnley remain the other two unbeaten sides.

We have a full set of fixtures next week and the Clarets travel to Blackpool. The game is likely to be played at Fleetwood's Highbury ground. The recent results, the forthcoming fixtures and our goalscorers are shown below.
