Saturday’s victory has taken them into the semi-finals of the Youth Alliance Cup following victories over Blackpool, Darlington and Tranmere prior to the win over Doncaster, with all of the ties having been played at Gawthorpe.

Oldham are the other northern side to have reached the last four after they beat Grimsby, also at home, 3-0 on Saturday and now the sides are set to meet for a fourth time this season.

It’s all square at the moment with one win each and the most recent match drawn, that coming last month in the Merit League when Joe Booth scored to give us a 1-1 draw.

In the other ties played QPR and Swindon have gone through after victories over Bournemouth and Wycombe.

That’s one semi-final and we still await news of the Lancashire FA Youth Cup and our opponents in the semi-final of that competition.

Saturday’s Alliance Cup Results

Bournemouth 0 QPR 1

Swindon 2 Wycombe 1

Burnley 4 Doncaster 0

Oldham 3 Grimsby 0
