Oldham move up to third in the Alliance

A win for Rochdale at home to Oldham would see them draw level with second place Walsall, a win of four goals or more would have seen them go second. It wasn't to be. They were beaten by Oldham who overtook them in the table and with a game in hand.

It's three defeats in the last four games for a Rochdale side who had spent some weeks at the top of the league. They now trail current leaders Blackpool by nine points and have just the one remaining game in hand.

Down at the bottom of the league it was bottom at home to next to bottom as Morecambe hosted Shrewsbury. They started the game two points apart but it was the visitors who took the points and that's seen them move ahead of Wrexham in the table with Morecambe now four points adrift at the bottom.

In the only other game there was a home win for Wigan against Carlisle which enabled the Latics to move up one place in the table to tenth, on the same number of points as both Burnley and Preston although they have played a game more.

It's cup week this week which means there was no league programme. However, one has been arranged, that between Accrington and Preston. Should Preston win or draw they would go above us which would leave us in 9th place going into Christmas.

We don't have a league game until 11th January when Carlisle are the visitors to Gawthorpe, but ahead of that we do have a big night to come when we face Manchester United in the 3rd round of the FA Youth Cup. This will be played at Turf Moor on Monday 16th December with a 7 p.m. kick off.
