North End now clear favourites for Alliance League

With Preston not in action over the weekend it gave Shrewsbury a chance to draw level on points, if still behind them on goal difference. But they missed the opportunity and with Preston retaining their three point lead and having a game in hand, they must now feel as though they already have one hand on the trophy with games running out.

Morecambe got the weekend off to a surprise start with a win over Carlisle on Friday afternoon whilst Vale's win came in one of five games played on the Saturday.

That should have been six, but Burnley's fixture at Macclesfield was called off because of a waterlogged pitch. In the other games there were wins for Oldham, Rochdale and Wigan.

Morecambe might have been winners on Friday but they lost yesterday in a re-arranged game at Bury. They, like Wigan, are now just a point behind Burnley with Oldham's win having taken them level with us.

We're next in action this Saturday when we travel to Walsall who are currently one place above us in the table with six more points.
