It was a quiet week in the league with only three matches played and the scheduled fourth, that between Bury and Fleetwood, called off.
The top of the table clash was one of two halves according to Carlisle youth coach Eric Kinder.
Carlisle had the better of what proved to be a goalless first half but then conceded an own goal just after the break. Preston were much better in the second half and added a second to win the game.
Next to bottom Morecambe got their third point of the season with a 0-0 draw against Accrington and there were four goals in the other game as Rochdale beat Port Vale 4-0 to leapfrog them and go fourth.
After a break this weekend, Burnley are back in action this coming Saturday with a visit to Blackpool.
They currently sit one place ahead of us with one point more although we have two games in hand. Blackpool have already beaten us this season, winning 3-1 at Gawthorpe just over five weeks ago.
Jason Gilchrist scored our goal in that game and he's scored six of our 12 league goals to date with Luke Gallagher, on two, the only other player to have scored more than once.
