No extra points for Burnley despite win

The reason for this is because Chester City's results have now been expunged and that includes our 3-1 win against them at Gawthorpe when the goals came from two Michael King penalties and a third from Joe Jackson. Those goals have now been removed from the list at the bottom of this article.

Chester's removal has certainly helped league leaders Preston who were still to play them. They went into their game with a one point lead over Shrewsbury at the top of the table and ended the day seven points clear as the Shrews dropped three points whilst being without a game.

Preston won what was the game of the day at Stockport. The League Two club's youth team were really pressing for the top, but North End's win and three points lost from their win at Chester has made things so much more difficult.

Browsing the table now would suggest that Preston are very much likely champions now. It could have been a two point lead over Stockport had the result gone the other way but now they sit a full eleven points above them.

Our result meant we stayed exactly where we were in seventh place - so no closer to the top of the league but now one place closer to the bottom. We would need just two points from three games in hand to go above Oldham into sixth place.

The other winners on Saturday were Port Vale, Walsall and Wigan who beat the bottom three and the one remaining game saw Tranmere and Rochdale share six goals in a 3-3 draw.

Burnley face second in the league Shrewsbury at Gawthorpe this Saturday who, along with Preston and Stockport, have lost just three times this season. It will be a tough game for us.

The results and next fixtures are below along with Burnley's revised list of goalscorers. The new league table can be found at the link at the bottom along with our fixtures and the same for the reserves.
