Both of the top two recorded 2-1 wins, Preston in their derby against Blackpool and Stockport against last season's winners Wrexham. Meanwhile Wigan moved into third place, just three points behind and with a game in hand, after an easy win at Accrington.

Result of the day though has to go to Port Vale. Bottom of the league with just three points they doubled that tally with a massive 6-0 win over Tranmere and that's seen Blackpool drop into the bottom place with four points.

Oldham, after scoring eight last week, could only manage four goals but it was more than enough to beat Rochdale 4-2 in another derby game.

Watch for Carlisle too. They seem to have recovered from a shaky start and looked impressive against the young Clarets a week ago. This time out they won the clash of the two teams furthest north against Morecambe.

Burnley, fresh from their win at Bury, travel to play Accrington on Saturday as we look to move up the table. Saturday's win has seen is climb one place to twelfth.
