Moving on up

Last updated : 06 October 2014 By Tony Scholes
Brad Jackson scored the second against Morecambe

The win has taken us a point above both Wrexham and Port Vale and ahead of Wigan on goal difference and Blackpool on goals scored.

Ours was one of only three games played last week. Preston beat Wrexham last Tuesday 1-0 at home. After a blistering start to the season they had faltered but this win took them back into third place and just a point behind Tranmere.

That third place became fourth on Saturday with Rochdale winning the other game and winning it comfortably, beating Fleetwood 4-0 away.

Many of the other clubs in our league were involved in the Youth Alliance Cup, and we came out on top in games against the North East League with wins for Accrington and Shrewsbury over Rotherham and Burton to be added to Wigan's penalty shoot out win against Bradford.

The other clubs were all paired with each other with wins for Oldham, who beat Preston 5-0, Carlisle, winners at Port Vale and Blackpool, who overcame Tranmere away.

This coming weekend, whilst the first teams in the Premier League and Championship enjoy the second break of the season, it is back to league action for all the clubs in the league with a full fixture list of eight games.

The big clash sees league leaders Walsall travel to Oldham. The Latics might be sixth in the league right now but they've two games in hand and have dropped only three points. Only Walsall, who have won seven and drawn one of their games to date have a better record.

We are once again at Gawthorpe where we entertain Carlisle who have not made the best of starts this season and have won just once in their eight games, that win coming against bottom club Morecambe in August.
