Preston kicked off the week's games with a home fixture against Manchester City, played on Tuesday afternoon at Deepdale. After City had gone in front with a first minute goal from Ben Mee, Preston came back to lead 3-1 with goals from Andy Carroll, Neil Mellor and Patrick Agyemang.

City came back with two goals from Ched Evans, his second just nine minutes from time giving the Premier League club a share of the spoils, and it was a result that gave Morecambe the chance to go top yesterday at Chester.

And Morecambe made no mistake with a powerful 5-0 win. They led 4-0 with four minutes remaining in the first half. Simon Grand got the first two with Jamie Burns and Wayne Curtis also scoring. Matty Poole added a late fifth to complete the scoring. It was an experienced Chester team too, including the likes of Phil Bolland and former Claret Tony Grant. Bolland was sent off early in the second half after stamping on Burns.

In the only other game Bury and Carlisle took a point each from a 1-1 draw at Radcliffe Borough's Stainton Park. Bury led but Luke Joyce netted an equaliser for Carlisle just before half time. There were no further goals although the Cumbrians were the stronger of the two sides and should have gone on and won it.

It's the Pontin's Cup next week, but the Clarets second string will be back in action in two weeks time when there are full fixtures. It's Accy again but this time we're at home against Championship rivals Preston.
