Morecambe and Wrexham get shock wins

It's debatable which result was the biggest shock. Wrexham went to leaders Preston and came away with a 3-1 win but maybe it was Morecambe's home win against Walsall by the same scoreline.

Both were unexpected results and Stockport couldn't take advantage as they fell to a defeat at Bury, and that left Shrewsbury to gain one point on Preston with their 1-1 draw at Gawthorpe against the Clarets.

Morecambe's win might well have seen them move up from next to bottom in the table but on a day of surprises there was also a win for Blackpool who beat Port Vale to draw level with them on points.

The other winners on Saturday were Carlisle and Macclesfield, who beat Tranmere and Accrington respectively.

Since the draw there has been further news for Burnley's youth players. Both Michael King and Dominic Knowles, as we reported at the beginning of the week, have been offered professional terms.

And finally Mehdi Lazaar is free to play after receiving international clearance from the Belgian FA. Lazaar has been with the club for a couple of months but has only been able to play in non-competitive games, similar to the situation that Neil Yadolahi found himself for far too long.

Why it takes a Football Association so long to sort out this sort of thing is anyone's guess. Some do it almost instantly; others take far too long over it.
