Craig Mawson plays in goal for the reserves
Mawson has worked as the goalkeeping coach at youth level for some time at Burnley and was offered the role on a full time basis with the structure having changed since the appointment of Billy Mercer as senior goalkeeping coach.

Despite him having to end his playing career with Hyde, he jumped at the chance and, with the first team and reserves both playing today along with the long term injury to youth team keeper Ben Woodhead, he's stepping in to play in goal for the reserves.

We travel to Macclesfield for the 2 o'clock kick off with a young side, and that's no surprise given that the senior players will be on duty at Villa Park a few hours later in the Carling Cup.

Ash Hoskin, besides fielding Mawson in goal, will also be without both Kevin Long and Wes Fletcher who are currently out on loan, and will have two members of the youth squad in his starting line up alongside seven members of the development squad and right back Richard Eckersley. The subs bench is made up entirely of youth team players.

It's the big top of the table clash. Burnley go into the game in first place in the league with 13 points from 5 games. Macclesfield are right behind us in second place with 12 points but having played 6 games. With Preston in third place on 9 points it will be the same top two after this week's games.

Burnley will line up: Craig Mawson, Richard Eckersley, Chris Lynch, Nik Kudiersky, Ed Williams, Ross Wilson, Chris Anderson, Alex-Ray Harvey, Michael King, Dominic Knowles, Alex MacDonald. Subs: Josh Cook, Curtis Woods, Steve Edwards, Dave Lynch, Joe McKee, Mehdi Lazaar, Joe Jackson.
