Late goal costs youth team third place

The top two both won again last Saturday. Preston were 4-0 winners against Fleetwood whilst Walsall overcame Wigan at home. It's taken Walsall four points clear of third place with North End just one point behind the leaders.

Then follows a group of four all with nine points and then Burnley on eight points. All but Rochdale of that group of four, like the top two, have played one game more than us.

It's all tightly packed in the league so far. Walsall have dropped just two points from a draw whilst Preston have lost one. Tranmere and Burnley both remain undefeated but other than those three clubs everyone has lost at least once.

Down at the bottom Accrington and Morecambe have just one point between them and it already looks as though it is going to be a struggle for them this season.

Blackpool, last season's champions, might be the ones to watch again. Having lost their first two games against Walsall and Burnley they have now won three successive games. Whilst chaos ensues at Bloomfield Road they have certainly got their act together at youth level in the last season or so.

They won at Bury on Saturday when there were also wins for Oldham and Wrexham, Oldham having the biggest win of the day with a 5-0 success over Carlisle who have now conceded 17 goals in their first five games.

We face Rochdale away this Saturday, always a tough fixture. They've won their last three league games and only went out of the cup on penalties after a 3-3 draw against Preston and they could be right up there with the leaders in a few hours time; they play Accrington at home this afternoon.
