Last 100 per cent Alliance record goes

Australian Brandon Wilson made debut on Saturday

They weren't just unbeaten; they'd won all of their six league fixtures and sat three points clear of Oldham at the top of the league. But they failed to stretch that lead last Tuesday with North End, who have recovered well after losing their first two games, taking the points.

Rochdale recovered four days later, and secured a sixth win of the season on Saturday with a 3-1 win at Macclesfield, and in doing so stretched their lead to six points because just below them it was success for third over second with Walsall beating Oldham 4-0.

Walsall, and Burnley who beat Fleetwood 4-1, weren't the only teams to have a good day in front of goal on Saturday. The seven fixtures yielded an amazing 40 goals with a minimum of four in each game.

Preston added another win, in a 5-3 win against Wigan, while last season's whipping boys Tranmere were the highest scorers of the day, netting six times at Wrexham.

Wrexham, the current champions, haven't made a good start to the season. They've won just one point so far from six games and they are only avoiding bottom place because of Morecambe's start which has seen them lose all five games.

Morecambe suffered another big loss, losing 4-0 at Carlisle and in the other games, Shrewsbury and Bury won at Port Vale and Accrington respectively.

Burnley's next game comes this Saturday with a visit to the Fylde to take on Blackpool, who, incidentally, are also our opponents in the 1st round of the Youth Alliance Cup which will be played two weeks later.
