Knowles scores last goal of the season

West Fletcher - scored just after half time
Knowles, on as a substitute for Alex MacDonald, netted the third to give us a 3-1 lead although it was Stanley who scored the last goal of the game that gave the result a less than fair reflection on the game.

The Burnley team made up of our two new professionals Adam Kay and Alex MacDonald, two of the second year apprentices who are leaving the club and seven first year apprentices whilst the bench was made up of five lads who are set to join us next season at the start of their apprenticeships.

They performed well and could have won the game much more convincingly with the Clarets much the better side. It was very much a surprise that there were no goals in the first half but we were in front in the very first minute of the second half as Wes Fletcher scored following good work by MacDonald after the keeper had saved the initial effort.

It looked odds on that Accrington would equaliser when a lob over the keeper seemed goal bound. I'm still not sure where Dan Brown came from but somehow he got back on the line and brilliantly kept the ball out.

That was the cue for us to double the lead and again it was the combination of Fletcher and MacDonald but this time Fletcher was the provider and Macca made no mistake. That should have been enough but Stanley came back to score but surely it was all over when Knowles converted near the end.

But Accrington got their second to bring the season to an end with a win and take the reserves up one place in the table.

The teams were:

Burnley: Stef Ritchie, Ben Hoskin, Dan Brown, Chris Lynch, Thomas Bradley, Chris Anderson, Adam Kay, Alex-Ray Harvey, Lewis Craig (Michael King), Alex MacDonald (Liam Newman), Wes Fletcher (Dominic Knowles). Subs not used: Danny McDonald, Oliver Devenney.
