It's raining goals at Accy

Jay Rodriguez - scored twice in the second half
Jay Rodriguez netted twice in the second half after central defender Chris Lynch had given us a first half lead, but there was a spell in the first half when we were very thankful to our Peruvian goalkeeper Diego Penny who made a series of saves including two outstanding stops, one down to his right and then one down to his left.

This came after the Clarets second string had opened the game very brightly and laid siege to the Bury goal in the opening period of the game. The closes we came to a goal was after Adam Kay released Ben Hoskin down the right and the full back's inch perfect cross was met by Alex MacDonald who headed just wide.

After Bury had finally caused us some problem, with Penny tipping over a shot in spectacular camera style, we went down and took the lead. We won a corner on the left which Kay took. Bury, in trying to clear their lines, were only able to hit the ball at Lynch and he scored from close range.

It was then that Penny came into his own. He made another eye catching save, but it was the two low down that were the most impressive, one to either side as well. And he deserved the bit of luck he got when Domaine Rouse, clean through, made a right hash of his control and the ball fell kindly for the keeper.

A goal up at half time we'd done well enough, but we soon doubled that lead early in the second half. It might not have been up there with the Bes Berisha goal but this was a good one, a very good one.

MacDonald got down the right and his cross was a good one, but needed someone to get on the end of it. That was Jay who scored with a stunning diving header. It brought the crowd to its feet and there was even a word of congratulation from the manager.

It was the same manager who a few minutes later carelessly lost possession of the ball as we went forward again. He'd blamed the pitch in the first half following a mistake, this time he took it out on MacDonald.

But his touch was certainly not lost when he set up our third and final goal. He played in Jay with a delightful ball and the striker was quick to latch on to it before hitting his shot past the keeper.

Steve Jones almost made it four but was denied by the keeper and then Jay had the ball in the net again, turning in a Jones shot only to see the eagle eyed assistant flagging for offside.

Conditions weren't good by this time as the rain came down, and down, and down, and down. The game finished in torrential rain, just in time for us all to get a soaking on the way out.

This was a good performance, there was some crisp passing and we were always able to get players into good forward positions. Obviously Jay and Diego took the eye but there were good performances right across the pitch. I'm not so sure about the 42-year-old number 10 though.
