Heavy defeat for reserves

Frédéric Nimani - shot wide in the first half
It's not the best place to go and watch football. The ground, situated right next to the Concrete Jungle, has a running track round the pitch leaving spectators in the one stand some considerable distance from the pitch.

And to make it worse, the lights on the far side are positioned such that it makes seeing more difficult during night games. Still, that was perhaps no bad thing on a night when Burnley turned in an absolute shocker of a performance.

Led out by a bandana wearing Joey Gudjonsson the second string, under the watchful eyes from the dugout of Stuart Gray, Andy Farrell and John Francis, hardly got anything right on a night when we conceded goals at will whilst failing to create anything of any note at the other end.

Wigan took the lead on fourteen minutes through Rachid Bouaouzan after the ball had been pulled back from the right when Christian Kalvenes inexplicably allowed the ball to go through.

It was 2-0 soon after with a shot from the edge of the box from Callum McManaman which apparently took something of a deflection. We'd offered little up to this point and once that second goal went in there was only ever going to be one winner.

Our only response was an effort from Frédéric Nimani that flew hopelessly wide and then just as we were preparing to go in for half time two goals behind our hosts got a third when Tomasz Cywka fired home.

The second half was no better and further goals came from Joe Holt and a second for McManaman to complete the scoring.

So how best to describe the evening. It was cold. The view was poor. The performance was even worse and we got a hammering. Happen as well we found a decent pub before the game.
