On Friday there were such as strikers Ashley Barnes and Marvin Sordell, wide men Ross Wallace and Michael Kightly as well as the experienced Steven Reid in the line up, but the team that turned out yesterday included no players with any competitive first team experience with Tom Anderson and Jason Gilchrist, both of whom travelled with the first team in pre-season to Austria, the senior players on view.
Against a strong and experienced Rochdale side we were behind early in the game and two down before half time with Rochdale adding a further two goals in the second half. Jason Gilchrist and Jamie Frost came closest for Burnley.
The Burnley team included Andy Nugent and Aiden O'Neill, both first year scholars, and a trialist in the starting eleven with four more youth team players coming on as substitutes during the game.
