We started well enough but fell behind just past the quarter of an hour when Carlisle netted with a shot from distance into the top corner of the net whilst at the other end Alex MacDonald could only head a superb John Spicer cross onto the post.
The game was at times scrappy and there was little in the way of goalmouth action. At the back Carlisle made little progress against our central defenders, and there was more good news for Burnley fans as Michael Duff turned in another excellent performance and is surely knocking on that first team door now.
We were still behind at half time and although Beasant had to be alert a couple of times we didn't really look as though we might concede a second goal. It was very much the same in the second half too but the keeper did have one outstanding save to make to tip over a shot from the right.
At the other end we put on some pressure but just couldn't create the chance that might bring us back into the game. Steve Davis made a triple substitution but it couldn't bring any change and when the final whistle blew, early as it had done in the first half, we'd dropped out first points in five games.
The teams were;
