'Dale had lost 3-2 a week earlier against Shrewsbury and coach Chris Beech said he would read them the riot act. He accused his youngsters of being unprofessional and would not accept a defence made up of second years conceding fifteen goals in five games. You can make that twenty-one goals in six games after this result and it looks as though it is going to be a tough week for them after this latest massive setback.
Accrington weren't the only side to hit six, fellow League Two side Macclesfield did too and their win was somewhat more comfortable as they beat Oldham 6-2. This sort of result was probably no surprise given that Oldham, under the charge of former Claret Tony Philliskirk, were involved. In their 22 league games this season there have been no fewer than 105 goals scored, 53 for and 52 against.
That leaves Carlisle and Chester and only five goals here with Carlisle winning it 4-1. Andy Cook (that's without an E on the end) got two for Carlisle to keep up his recent scoring form.
It is all tight at the top of the league with anyone of the top four having a realistic chance of winning the league. Burnley remain in 11th place and we are next in action this Saturday against Tranmere at Gawthorpe. I'm just hoping it will be somewhat warmer than it was last Friday.
